While El Museo’s galleries are under renovation, the museum continues to offer K-12 students and educators a variety of programs both on and offsite.

 


ONSITE: LATINO TALLERES (LATINO WORKSHOPS)

Using El Museo’s collection and exhibitions as a starting point, these thematic workshops touch on Latino and Latin American history, art, culture, and contemporary issues (see Program Themes). Designed to foster students’ observation, critical thinking and creativity, each ninety-minute workshop includes an interactive presentation and discussion facilitated by
a museum educator, followed by a hands-on art activity in El Museo’s Taller (art studio). Art forms explored in the workshops may include printmaking, painting, collage, drawing, and multi-media.

Program Time & Group Size
Tuesday-Friday, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm; Saturdays, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.
The maximum group size is 30 students. Please note group visitors to
the Heresies by Pedro Meyer exhibition will be limited to a maximum of
15 students. One adult chaperone is required for every 10 students.
Fees: NYC K-12 Public Schools: $130; All other K-12 Schools: $175.


OFFSITE: THREE-PART PROGRAMS

Designed to offer students and educators a more in-depth experience,
this three-part program includes three visits to the classroom by a museum educator and culminates with the creation of an age-appropriate art project. Based on a variety of themes, this program links the content of El Museo’s collections and exhibitions with classroom curricula in social studies, English, and art. Through observation, discussion, writing, and art-making activities, students will develop an understanding of Latin American and Latino art, history and culture.

CLASSROOM CONNECTIONS

Classroom Connections is a multi-session school partnership program designed to link the thematic content of El Museo’s collection and
exhibitions with social studies, English, math, science, and art. Curricular themes explored may include identity, immigration, neighborhood, and cultural heritage. El Museo works in partnership with educators and administrators to design a unique program that meets the specific needs
of each classroom. The program includes curriculum-planning sessions, multiple visits to the classroom by a museum educator, art-making workshops, visits to El Museo’s Taller (art studio), and a final student art project.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

El Museo’s After School Programs offer students and teachers an opportunity to explore El Museo’s collections and exhibitions with a museum educator during after school hours. Designed to meet the needs and interests of each school, these multi-session programs include curriculum-by a museum educator, art-making workshops, studio), and a final student art project.
